Ewha Womans University is a prestigious private women's university in Seoul, South Korea, known for its academic excellence, research, and commitment to empowering women.
It was founded in 1886, with a mission to modernize women’s education, expand educational opportunities and create a harmonized society by nurturing female leaders and promoting a creative and innovative platform for a sustainable society.
Ewha and Syensqo: A partnership that fosters innovation
Syensqo — formerly Solvay — has worked with Ewha Womans University for over a decade to advance scientific research and support future female leaders in STEM. The partnership fosters innovation, provides financial aid to talented students, and strengthens collaboration between academia and industry.
Through the Ewha-Syensqo Research & Innovation Center, which was set up through the partnership, we have succeeded in expanding global networks in key scientific fields, reinforcing Ewha’s position as a leader in STEM education and research.
Supporting the next generations of female scientists
To further our commitment to education and gender equality in STEM, Syensqo, through the Syensqo Fund, provides scholarships to outstanding female talents at Ewha Womans University. These women represent the next generation of female scientists, who will drive positive change in their communities and beyond.
We provide six scholarships per year, with each scholarship lasting two years.
The scholarships aim to support students who are pursuing studies in STEM disciplines, helping them overcome financial barriers and focus on their academic and research ambitions.
Addressing societal challenges
By nurturing talented students and empowering women to pursue higher education, we address gender disparity in education and contribute to the development of the next generation of female scientists and leaders. This initiative also strengthens ties with Asian academic institutes and communities, enhancing global collaboration.
Receiving the Ewha-Syensqo Scholarship has been instrumental in my doctoral journey and continues to have a positive impact on my current work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Ewha Brain Institute. This scholarship not only offered unwavering support and a strong peer-mentor network but also expanded my perspective beyond academia. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a healthier society through responsible AI applications, inspired by Syensqo's commitment to science and social change.
The Ewha-Syensqo Funding has been a driving force behind my research, enabling me to pursue high-quality science in a focused and supportive environment. Attending the Ernest Solvay Prize Ceremony further reaffirmed my belief in my potential and inspired me to embrace new challenges with confidence and a renewed sense of purpose.
