Fondation Jean-Marie Lehn

Scientific excellence for a sustainable future

The Fondation Jean-Marie Lehn is a leading chemistry research foundation. Established by the French government in 2007, it supports one of Europe’s most dynamic chemistry clusters, in Strasbourg, France, recognized globally for its scientific innovation.

A non-profit organization, the Foundation’s mission is to accelerate scientific progress by promoting collaboration between academia, research institutions, and industry partners that will help solve the major societal and environmental challenges we face today.

It brings together world-class researchers from the University of Strasbourg and the CNRS (the French National Centre for Scientific Research) to support groundbreaking projects at the intersection of chemistry, biology, physics, and medicine.

A one-of-a-kind Foundation with a global impact

The Fondation Jean-Marie Lehn is unique for several reasons:

  • It is the only foundation for scientific cooperation in France that is focused on chemistry. It is anchored by the University of Strasbourg and the CNRS, two global leaders in science.
  • It supports more than 100 interdisciplinary research teams
  • It connects a community of more than 1,000 scientists and engineers — from PhD students to senior experts.
  • It is named after Nobel Laureate Jean-Marie Lehn, a pioneer in supramolecular chemistry.
  • Its focus is on sustainable materials, renewable resources, and collaboration between academia and industry

Through the Syensqo Fund, our partnership with the Fondation Jean-Marie Lehn is supporting three PhD talents who are driving innovation in chemistry.

Their research projects focus on the design of sustainable and ecological materials, and the synthesis of renewable and multifunctional building blocks.

Contribution to scientific innovation

By nurturing future talent and investing in the next generation of scientists, this partnership fosters collaboration between researchers and across institutions.

It helps develop cutting-edge solutions that provide exceptional performance, while also addressing environmental challenges, such as carbon emissions and the use of non-fossil raw materials.

Bernard Meunier, Chairman Fondation Jean-Marie Lehn

Our collaboration with Syensqo on these research projects allows us to push the boundaries of materials science and develop innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.
